What's In A First Aid Kit?

This is a question that many people ask.  There is no real answer only recommendations.  On 30th June 2011 The British Standards Institute (BSi) introduced a new standard in First Aid Kit content for the Workplace (BS-8599).  After consultation  the new content has been changed only slightly with the addition of items and removal of certain products.  To view what has changed please visit New British Standard First Aid Kits (BS-8599).

Nearly all Kits will include the following:

Guidance Leaflet
Plasters
Safety Pins
Sterile Dressing
Alcohol Free Cleansing Wipes
Disposable Gloves
Any additional content very much depends on where and for what purpose the First Aid Kit is required.  For example a small First Aid Kit suitable for the home may include the following:
  1. Guidance Leaflet
  2. Assorted Plasters
  3. Alcohol Free Cleansing Wipes
  4. Microporous Tape 1.25cm x 9m
  5. Conforming Bandage 5cm x 4m
  6. Sterile Dressing Medium
  7. Low Adherent Dressing 5cm x 5cm
  8. Steropore Adhesive Dressing 7cm x 6cm
  9. Safety Pins
  10. First Aid Scissor
  11. Diposable Gloves (pair)
Please take a look at Small Content First Aid Kit.
